Brave New World

I wanted to check my facts for this post, but Huntingdon's website and it's Wikipedia page were not so helpful.

There's a dorm there. Somewhere.

Searcy Residence hall was built in the 70's and named after Mr. Hubert Floyd Searcy. It's designer was an admirer and protege of the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. If you have ever seen Searcy you probably wondered why it was built with long brown streaks down the side. In the architect's defense, he said that from far away it was supposed to resemble a grove of pine trees. I won't go into detail what it reminds me of, but you can see that from the picture provided by the college website, that they are super proud of it.

All negativity aside, Searcy Residence Hall will be my home for the next year, something that I am looking forward to a lot. My freshman year my mother nagged me to death to complete housing forms on time, but for once in my life my laziness paid off, because I was one of the few freshmen to be put in Blount. This overflow situation seemed great at that time, seeing as my five roommates and I had two showers to fight over, rather than me and my 23 roommates fighting over 3 showers in Searcy. Overtime I began to notice inside jokes flowing from the walls of the other dorm. I was missing out on a right of passage, and would never get that chance again.

Living in Blount for two years, and then becoming an RA in Searcy reminds me of those millionaires who try to get away from their dinner parties and board meetings by dressing up as the homeless and roughing it under a bypass for weeks at a time. Yes. That is a real thing. I will never be a true Searcite, but I will get the musk and crooked necks that seem to go along with living here.

This year already has good vibes shooting out of every brick of this place. The RAs are meshing, the halls are being decorated in the manliest ways possible, and we are all sitting patiently like parents watching kids come down for Christmas morning. We can't wait to watch you guys take our gift and go with it. Countless hours and plenty of free meals are being consumed to prepare for the arrival of the class of 2014.
We hope you stick around. You just might learn something here.

From our family to yours,
Merry Christmas

P.S.

Did yall know Searcy is one of the haunted buildings on campus? On the 2nd and 3rd floor a girl has been spotted, while this was an all guy dorm, in a towel wrap. When you call out to her she will turn towards a door and vanish into it.

Think of it this way. If you want to leave a legacy, you'll no doubt be remembered here forever.
