There are people in this world who want to do us harm. They are a small number compared to the people in this world who just want to make it through the day, and have a safe place for their children to grow up. The community center being built two blocks from the remains of the World Trade Center will house the latter.
When I see this cartoon, I think a Mosque is the least we can do.
Our President, at that time, acted on an irrational prejudice and a generalization that all Muslims wanted us dead. This is not the case, nor will it ever be. The fear that this man created still exists and is rampant among Tea Party followers.
These people will not listen to reason, but hopefully they have time for a fun scenario.
The year was 2001. Little Jamie Hollinger was 8. He was sick and tired of being forced to take a drug for his ADHD that "calmed him down" by making him violently nauseous one day or devoid of feeling the next. While talking with other children with this problem they soon stopped taking their medicine and grew fervent in their belief that America was taking away their right to a decent childhood. They proposed a plan to blow up major pharmaceutical buildings on the same day with the help of a pyromaniac 12 year old whose father was a chemistry professor at a local college. They succeeded in their plan and many innocent people died that day.
In the days and years that followed, President Bush legalized abortions and grassroots groups start bombing birthing clinics. Day Cares are placed under the control of the government so that they may closely monitor toddlers. US Marshals are placed in every public school and private schools take suite and hire extra security. It is now a law to place tracking and identification devices in newborns and anyone under the age of 18. The Jonas Brothers are beaten to death when trying to preform a song about teenage angst in an underground club.
The year is 2010 and someone wants to build a Chuck E Cheese down the street from the remains of the Pfizer building.
See how crazy you are?
The fact is, people will retaliate if you take away their freedom. Sound familiar? If the Muslims are denied their right to a Mosque that happens to be near Ground Zero, NOT in spite of Ground Zero, then aren't we allowing them the right to revolt? Pick your battles. Fight for something that isn't already promised by the Fore Fathers you swear by.
Interesting and witty. I found your analogies and scenarios very astute. Sweet mocha-flavored satire!
